Last week, I awarded a free maternity session to a local mom-to-be and couldn’t have been happier with my choice! Treina stopped by today for a fun, relaxed maternity session that turned out amazingly! I can’t wait to edit the rest of the photos as I had a hard enough time trying to choose just a few for the sneak peek! I honestly hope I can have the opportunity to photograph this beautiful lady again in the feature!

.baby benson. {stettler baby photographer}
Saturday, January 23rd, 2010Yesterday afternoon, I had the pleasure of shooting the handsome Mr. Benson, his mommy and a pregnant friend of hers! He was such a fantastic little man and held it together until the very end when he was just too tired to do anymore! While Benson took a little lunch break, I used the opportunity to snap a few photos of his ‘auntie’ and her beautiful pregnant belly!
Before they all came over, however, my own little man helped mommy set up and make sure the lighting was just right. This first one is his “sitting like daddy” pose…. note the low zipper! lol
Now without further delay — Benson:
And the mommy-to-be….

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010Unfortunately, I’ve had to postpone the Casting Call contest for now. I’ll keep you updated on the status of that contest when I can but for now, keep an eye out for another exiting contest on the horizon!
Yesterday I headed over to Red Deer to meet with some awesome ladies for a photog get together and learning session! I had so much fun! I got to meet some awesome women and received some great advice and tips! I ended up staying late to absorb as much information as I possible could and got home around 9:45. I headed straight to bed and stared at my ceiling for 45 minutes before I decided to finally shut off the photog business in my head and try to go to sleep. Ha! Yeah right….
When I was pregnant with Carter, I used to imagine him living in my belly inside a little house, instead of the boring water sac he was actually in. Whenever he’d start to get a bit active, I would imagine him in there, changing into a red sweat suit and pulling on rainbow sweat bands. Then he’d push back his little brown couch and oval coffee table, pop in a work out video (VHS), crank up ‘Everybody was Kung Foo Fighting’ and start sweatin’ to the oldies. When he was done his 20 minute mediocre work out (because that’s the kind of ‘working out’ our genetic line is accostomed to) he’d pull off his rainbow head sweat band, grab a juice box and relax on the couch.
The child I am currently carrying picked up his video from the hard core section of the fitness department. He is in there kickboxing to ‘Eye of the Tiger’ after downing 17 Red Bulls and the kid never sleeps. So when I finally decided to take my trip to never-never-land, the little peanut had other plans for me — kicking and rolling and summersaulting around in my bloated belly. After walking around the house for another 45 minutes, drinking some water, humming to myself and trying to refrain from self-induction (ha. ha?), I finally headed back to bed to try my old standby method of falling to sleep — Math.
Go ahead and laugh like my husband does but it really works and I’m not talking about simple addition. The next time you’re laying in bed, unable to fall asleep for whatever reason — thoughts of business, restless foot syndrome, jackie chan has taken up residence in your abdomen — try doing long division in your head. With your eyes closed and sleep slowly creeping in, it gets more and more difficult to remember what numbers went where and you’re always starting over. If you find it’s not working, try harder numbers. Eventually, I guarantee, you will get so bored and so confused that you will fall asleep. Try it tonight!

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010Carter and I had a bit of a slow morning so I thought I’d pull out the camera for some fun shots of my big man!

I received a fairly good response to the Giving is Awesome contest I held throughNovember and December (original post) and have now chosen a winner! I am so proud to say I am a part of the 366 photographers across North America who donated a total of over $390,000 worth of custom photography for the Giving is Awesome campaign and I plan to parcipate next holiday season as well! Thank you to everyone who nominated and showed their love and appreciation for another person this year — you are the angels that walk among us.
The winning family is a woman and her four year old from northern Alberta who, earlier in the year, had to make the terrifying and brave decision to leave their home and start over on their own. For personal reasons, we will not be mentioning their names or showing their faces at anytime on the website or blog but I will say that I am so excited to meet both this strong mother and her beautiful child later in the year!
I have a few sessions coming up over the next few weeks so stay tuned for sneak peeks and remember to keep your eye out for those fun contests!
